Texting when on airplane mode?

Sheila1961

I travel to the USA Bellingham. My question is I cannot receive texts from the USA or send  texts to USA. Does anyone know if I have to do something on settings to correct this or any ideas would be more than welcome. Thanks

Whenever I travel to Wa state, Idaho or Oregon...I'm not able to recieve either text or calls without the roaming add-on. I've tried but not happening for me. Maybe that's an east thing.

@hairbag1 not sure about calls, but I've personally seen my travel companion (aka gf) receive texts in WA state without an add-on.

And I'm in BC and my experience was in Hawaii. Inbound calls and texts worked without an add-on. I was connected to either of the partners. Maybe you were set on manual and never connected to them.

@Sheila1961  When you are in Canada phone must be connected to the PM network (not airplane mode) and you should be able to text to most US numbers. In fact most plans include International texting so you should be able to text to any country that supports International texting.

When you are in the US you must make sure that roaming is on to be able to receive texts from Canada. In order to send texts from the US you need to purchase a US Roaming Text add-on for $8 (valid for 10 days starting from the day of purchase).

As soon as you leave Canada, your Public Mobile service will stop...unless you are travelling to US and have subscribed to the 10 Day US Roaming Add-on. You can select a 10 day text only package for $8. You can get a talk/ text package for $15. You can get a talk/text and 250MB data package for $20.

These plans are good for 10 days from the time you buy it so if you get it at 10pm...that counts as day1.

Good luck and safe travels.

It has been my experience that when arriving in the states by plane and turning airplane mode off and that network selection is auto that you'll immediately receive a text from Public Mobile welcoming you to the states and inviting you to purchase roaming add-ons.

The phone will receive texts and calls but not outbound without doing so. Next time I'm going to fiddle around with data.

@Sheila1961 typically you can't do anyting with airplane mode turned on.  Are you trying to send messages over a WiFi network without turning on cellular?  One of the best things about Public Mobile is you can never be billed for things after the fact, so there's actually no reason to need airplane mode turned on.

@Sheila1961

Which plan do you have?

You do not have turn on airplane mode when traveling in the USA.  You won't be charged extra.  It just won't work if you don't have the appropriate add on.

You should be able to receive texts without any roaming package.  However, you can't send texts without a roaming package.
