Hi got new phone put public mobile sim in and phone sees it as telus and does not work. Any ideas

It should work as PM is the 3 tier of Telus.
Try rebooting your phone by powering off then back on.

What phone is your new one?
and you use the same PM sim used on the old phone?
Reboot phone and Reset Network Settings. At connection, try Manual and check again what network it sees, if it sees Public Mobile, click on it
