Display saying Sim card invalid and not inserted. Yesterday the phone was working ok

I have a feeling reseating the sim will resolve that. Hopefully you have already fixed it!

You could also try the SIM card in another phone. To determine whether hardware issue versus PM service problem.
May also check if your device was blacklisted for some reason:

Try to:
- Reboot phone
- Re-seat SIM - remove, reboot and reinsert
- Reset network connections
- Check your self-serving account. Does it say: Active
- Try your SIM in another phone
