Sim card

I put my SIM card in my new phone but says carrier needs to activate the phone? What happens to simple days where I just moved my sim card

There's a 2020 article on Mobilsyrup that says Bell and Virgin stock locked phones and only unlock them during the activation process:

No  idea whether that's still the case but you can check the phone in settings - general - about then scroll down for carrier lock.  If it's unlocked it should say no sim restrictions.

@xMantee  Yes that’s certainly true for any phone bought outright . But when in contract or it’s a bring it back device might have different rules attached so someone doesn’t just sign up for a new phone and take it to a new carrier with out the contract being fulfilled possibly. But keep us posted on what they say . I’m curious now

Maybe it is and I’ll have to get her to handle it. But I think regardless of amount owing or whatever it may be they have to unlock it for you. From what I’ve read up on anyways

@xMantee  yes I think it was stopped awhile ago to lock phones . Any chance this phone is in contract with bell ? Best to start with them and ask if it is say you want to be able to use your other SIM card in the phone

Was it not banned to carrier lock devices in Canada and such like 8 years ago?

hi @xMantee that sounds like the phone is  carrier looked 

  you need to check with the carrier you got the phone from for an unlock code

Just says sim not supported by carrier or some odd thing when i put it in. Need to call for activation of something idk doesn’t make any sense to me

@xMantee  So with PM SIM card in the new phone have you rebooted the device ? Try that see if it helps 

also ensure the SIM card using upside down in the sim tray @xMantee

Phone brand new out of box just last night. Girlfriend got a deal for 2 iPhones with her bell plan and gave me one
