you can either port out the number or disable autopay
or if you can also ask PM to remove credit card from the account. Just open ticket with PM using the Orange Chatbot icon on the lower right. Type the question Submit ticket and select Contact Us to get to ticket open screen

Very easy to do actually. First, log into your account, then click on this direct link.
https://myaccount.publicmobile.ca/en/account/my-payment/manage-subscription
You will see a circle toggle beside the word Subscribed. Move that to the left and your account will be cancelled before the next renewal date since it's prepaid.
Another way to cancel with Public Mobile is if you port your phone number out to another service provider.

to cancel the account but keep the number with another carrier, make sure you still have PM account active, then request porting from the new carrier. Once number is ported, account will be closed
or if you just want to give up the number as well, then just login My Account, Payment, Manage Subscription and turn off "Subscribed", which turns off Autopay. Account will not renew and will be closed after 90 days
