My phone number has been given away to someone else. Public mobile has been paid monthly by automated debit. How can this happen.

@Jim1130 Is this a new phone number from PM mobile ? If so unfortunately it happens sometimes . If this new number just easier to go into your account profile page and pick a new one like this

If your bills are up to date and your account did not expire, contact a CS Agent using the chat box in the bottom right corner and enter Customer Service. Are you sure they gave your number "away"? Have you tried calling it?
Just so you know, this isn't the first time this kind of thing has happened. Someone I know here, they gave away their account number which then gave them the phone number and all their rewards too. It was a mess to clean up.

first, can you still receive inbound calls,? if you can, no worry, sometimes, just some people thought they have your number but they don't . Or sometimes it's call Caller ID Spoofing, basically, caller id faking (some spammer used system to fake your id, but that does not mean they took away your number)
but if you are not receiving inbound calls, then did you ask for porting a month ago? Either way, check with PM support agent by sending them a message
