My phone says SOS and my service won’t work. Is there an outage?

@melissajoseph it sounds like you have an iPhone. SOS may appear if you don't have a cell signal but iPhone still allows emergency calls.  Are you in a building that's blocking celluar signals?

Did you purchase your device brand new? If not check your phone's IMEI# below....

You can find the IMEI# by going to "About Phone" in your Settings or by dialing *#06# on your phone.

First, login to My Account using Incognito mode to confirm your account status is Active

 

Try to reboot the phone

Try to reseat the sim card (Power down the phone, take sim card out for a minute, then put it back in and power up)

Try changing the preferred network type to 3G Only

Try the PM sim in another phone if possible

and try to use the phone in another area

 

Try to use it on another phone

Although you probably already tried, service can sometimes be restored with a restart of the device.  That can speed up to the reconnection to the network in the case the network did was down momentarily.

Try one or more of the below may help with that message or finicky things:

  • restart your phone
  • toggle into and out of airplane mode
  • perform a Reset of the device's Network Settings
  • remove and reinsert your SIM card
  • Can you try your SIM in another device to rule out the device?
