SMS messages failing

Hello,

both of my public mobile iphones are showing "message failed" when trying to send an SMS message to a phone on bell mobility. Sometimes SMS messages will eventually go through after a long wait, but more often they just error out.

Is there a system wide issue going on? we've tried rebooting, but the fact that it's both devices seems suspicious.

One of my phones had something like this a couple days ago. I chose to do a full power off restart. Maybe airplane would have worked. Maybe a simple restart too. But I went all the way. It fixed.

But you said you did a reboot already.

@LitlLdy- I don't know what the default is but imessage has its own internal instant messaging (IM) system that needs the internet. It can IM to other iphones. You then have turned on the setting in there to send as sms and send as mms. Then you can send to anyone and also IM to other iphones.

@dust2dust , my iPhone only requires that I use data/wi-fi to send messages if they are sent as iMessages or MMS (picture) messages not when sending as text (SMS) messages. Or at least since I’ve been using them since 2014. It may work differently for other people.

@Dunkman , I’ve never had to turn on data or Wi-Fi to send a text (SMS) successfully from my iPhone! is this new? For iMessages or MMS I have to but not for text (SMS) messages.

@Chris_s1

was it only an issue sending to Bell? how about send to other provider?

Try to change the network mode to different one, starts with 3G, then 4G (LTE) then 5G and see if the SMS issue is resolved that way.
