SLOW DATA INTERNET 1.7MBPS

Is anyone else having this issue? I have a brand new iphone 13 pro max and not sure why my internet is super slow?

I agree, something was definitely going on with the throttle. I am confident it was nothing to do with poor network connectivity and everything to do with some shotty implementation of the throttle. It worked though, as I'm now spending more money on a 4G plan.

I had a 3G plan for almost 2 years and for most of that it was unthrottled (error at PM's end i think), so I was getting great speeds. A few weeks ago that changed and I was getting the same speed as you or slower, so i think they caught in and put the throttle back on. They're likely reviewing reports of migration rates to the new 4G plans and noticed i had a 3G plan with no throttle.

In any case it got me to upgrade to a 4G plan because I wasn't even getting 3Mbps; it was so slow at times that i couldn't even listen to Spotify. Not as advertised, even for 3G. Anyways it's been great since going to a 4G plan, so this round goes to PM.

Something isn't right here.  Changing to a 4g speed plan shouldn't improve data speeds when connected to the LTE network if you weren't already able to get 3Mbps on the 3g plan.  This could be an indication that something has going with the throttling protocol.

As for the the discussion about the 3g network being shut down, this also shouldn't have any effect on speeds that you were getting on the LTE network (on a 3g plan).

I will say that connections to the HSPA+ network have gotten very unreliable for data (cutting out, slow), although I haven't experienced many voice service issues.

I've also experienced the same as @DennyCrane. like I said they want customers to migrate to the 4g. 3g is getting shut down.

APN settings aren't related to speeds.

Sometimes internet speed can be pretty slow depending on your location/ Hope this helps?

@5535Whitehorn

Is the site reporting MB/s or Mb/s?  The difference is quite large with MB being 8 times higher.

@gpixel why not? 3G speed is still unthrottled and still provide better speed than the LTE capped speed, just that it has worse latency

@5535Whitehorn open ticket with PM support, they might offer online live char , as good as support over the phone, kind of..

1. If you have access to My account: At https://publicmobile.ca/chatbot.

Start by typing "Submit a ticket", then click "Contact Us", Then click "Other", then click "Click here to submit a ticket ↗"

2. If you don't have access to My Account or have trouble with Chatbot: Private message CS Agent at:

I just wish I could talk to a tech support over the phone -_- this is very frustrating to say the least but thank you everyone for your help and support.

that trick used to work a year ago. it doesn't work anymore

ughhh I hope that isn't the case

@5535Whitehorn basically change the preferred network to 3G.  PM network capped the LTE speed at 3Mpbs but no cap on 3G.  On 3G , it could go as much as 12 to 15Mbps

Switch between 3G/4G - Apple iOS
  1. Select Settings.
  2. Select Mobile Data.
  3. Select Mobile Data Options.
  4. Select Voice & Data.
  5. To enable 3G, select 3G.

Can you please explain to me what this 3G trick is? Would love to try but not sure I understand. Thank you.

Hmmm... I have been on this plan for almost a year. I never had any problems and just recently this started to happen. I don't want to play another extra $5 to have to deal with this slow internet again.

@5535Whitehorn

you can switch to the student plan 55/20gb (4g). idk you said you're on a 3g plan. those are the types of speeds they offer. if you just activated they probably just started throttling your speed. initial activation you will have access to the full speed 30mb+

It was better before, and just lately in the last week this has been a problem

Also yes, I'm on 3G plan for $50

It's not 3G speed and I'm wondering if I need to change providers

@5535Whitehorn was it better before and just a problem lately?  or you just joined and there is nothing to compare with?

  again,  try the 3G trick for now

I tried rebooting my phone and it jumped to 10MBPS for a couple minutes and then it went back to 1.7 sometimes under? I tried speed testing at a  restaurant 10km away from my home earlier and it was 0.3MBPS. Not sure why the internet is so painfully slow and have had very little help from the agent at Public Mobile.

@5535Whitehorn

if you're on the 3g plan than no. max speed is 3mb

For the price I'm paying shouldn't I be getting some decent internet though??? It's at 1.7MBPS

@5535Whitehorn Are you on the 3G speed plan?  this could be a local network issue.  Try reboot the phone once.  Try to use your phone in another area and see if it works better.   As a temporary workaround , try to change your preferred network type to 3G Only, it might give you speed up to 12 to 15Mbps

@5535Whitehorn

i think it's to move customers to the new LTE data plans
