Hey, I’m going to the US soon and I’ve heard that the current 3G SIM cards in some phones do not work, how do I know if my SIM card is up to date and will work?( I just received this SIM card when I switched to public mobile a few months ago) thanks in advance for any help!

HI @Leahmarie18   No, those travel sim cards are not sold by PM.  You can get it from Amazon.ca

But I suggest you to get it when you are in US, it is cheaper and easier to get it there.  Just head to any mobile store and ask them for Prepaid data sim cards and they will provide you different choices

HI @Leahmarie18

text will still work with T-Mobile or AT&T LTE network and not affected by the 3G shutdown.

So, should be ok to go ahead and buy the roaming text add-on.  Just in case it doesn't work, PM will usually credit back in those cases

I’m just going on vacation, so it would be to reach each other while we’re down there (in New Hampshire) so mostly just texting likely!

your line not working in US until buy it add-ons, but the add-ons not working well,
go to store walmart US, buy it prepaid sim card for US, or from amazon ca,

I was in the states for a job interview and had a horrible time with the voice - got a voicemail days later once i was back in Canada. I looked like an ass - which sucked cause i tried and got the plan.

So depending what you need it for, you may want to look into other options. If its just googling and calling hotels you should be safe.

The issues with US roaming is not with the SIM card themselves.  You SIM card should be fine.

The main issue is the decommissioning of the 3G networks in the USA.  Public mobile partners with AT&T and T mobile. Data should work fine, but it is the talk that may be an issue with traveling.  Public mobiles uses 3G for talk, which is being decommissioned with their partners.  Supposedly, customers can use 2G T mobile network, but the reliability and reception may be an issue depending on which area of the USA you are traveling.

@Leahmarie18 hi as long as you have a public sim it is supposed to work the issue is 3g service is shuting down in the states and the US addon is becoming less and less efective, I would buy a travel sim instead of buying an add on

HI @Leahmarie18   it is not the sim card.  No need to change sim card

it is US is shutting down 3G network and PM needs 3G for voice

Roaming data and text should not be a problem, just roaming voice might be an issue
