Rollieftw

Hi PM,

I am getting frustrated with robo callers, scammers, cra robo scammer calling me, I have received over 5 calls today and it is only 3 pm... I also have someone spoofing my number and I have angry people calling me back thinking that I am the scammer.

This is out of control and is happening on both my PM cell phone numbers.

Please help!

@gpixel  I agree with you. The scammers do use this list as a shopping list for new/legitimate numbers. I registered a number a few years ago and the scam calls increased. Now I just let all calls go to voice mail unless I recognize the number. Then if I find it is a scammer I block it and report it using the option in my phone. I'm not sure if it's the same on all phones but on my phone you touch and hold on the # in call history and a box pops up  with options including block and report as spam. I hope this helps others who may not know about this option.

@Pawprints1986 you are 100% correct and scammers do use this list.

In recent years I've wondered if the do not call list is really just easy access to a whole list of currently active numbers as a reference for scammers.

I've just been blocking individually

This was the solution! Things are nice and quiet now on both lines.

Thank you!

@Rollieftw sadly, this is likely just a coincidence in timing.  You may see a reduction in calls from legitimate, Canadian-based companies.  However, most of the spam and scam callers are based overseas and do not care one iota of whether or not you've registered on the Canadian do not call list.  Chances are, you will see the calls resume again at some point in the not too distant future.

I have also been experiencing this exact issue on my Public Mobile number.  Very frustrating!!  Luckily I have been able to use Google Call Screening on my Pixel 4.  Gets rid of the calls right away without having to answer them at least.  Unfortunately the area code call blocking apps won't work on these because they are local.

Decline the calls to a dead-end using a custom conditional call forward, which also keeps them away from your voicemail:

I'm currently working on setting up a Canadian access number for Lenny we can forward such calls to - the Public Mobile community will be the first to know. 😉 https://youtu.be/tsnbSdU-sOE

You can try blocking the numbers of the calls coming in but not real much to do about someone spamming your number. Spammers do tend to move on to new numbers eventually and hopefully they don't last too long for you.

If you are not too attached to the phone numbers you currently have you do have the option to change them in your self serve account. You can do this once in a 30 day period. I know, a real pain to notify your contacts.

I'd recommend flagging the phone numbers to the CRTC so they can follow up with the spoof calls! This happened to me too and is quite frustrating to say the least.

Service providers Canada-wide have been provisioned to enforce stricter technologies that inhibit robo-calls, but before we get there it's best we take the time to document any further incidents! You can do it here:https://crtc.gc.ca/eng/phone/telemarketing/
