Re: data plan not working

Shoot! ... I thought I got it! :S

I'm not techy, but with google's help I found my APN settings.. and it was set to my old provider.

I clicked + to add a new one and gave it the name Public Mobile, and manually set all those other parts as you specified... then I saved it...

But now I cannot select it...

-- The one with the old provider has a bubble and it is selected. And the new one I created doesn't have a bubble, so I cannot select it...

Help?

@CannonFodder   YAY! That fixed it! It was the MVNO settings! 😄 Horray!! Thank you!

@Anonymous  Yeah, I followed the rest of the instructions and added the APN info you typed out.

And Yes! Thank you! I did that manual reset. Man, that's so much more simple! 😄

When I turned it back on the phone said "No service: Selected network (Public Mobile) unavailable" But I went to "Available networks"... let it search... clicked on Public Mobile and it registered me on the network.

Now it's back to the same.

I just tested it, and the texting works... but it won't send MMS messages (that's what it needs data for)

@Jacks  I'm using a Galaxy S3 as well, and data doesn't work on mine unless I edit those APN settings that @Anonymous  posted on page 2. Mine are exactly like that, EXCEPT the two entries related to MVNO are disabled, and then my data works.

@geopublic  I've gone through my settings repeatedly, and there is no option for network reset. I went to settings -- backup and restore-- and the only options I can click involve backup... or I can do a "Factory data reset"

But there's no "Network reset"

Oh! I missed that link.

So I did what they said... but after I "Reset to default" then my old service provider was still there (koodo). So maybe its a koodo phone? But then... if that's the issue... then texting and talking wouldn't work either, right? Cause those would be similar to the data. They should either both work... or both not work...

Anyways... I continued... and it's the same.

Still no data.

What do you mean "continued"? Did you put in the proper APN info?

Another possibility is to turn off the phone, pull SIM, turn on phone, turn off phone, insert SIM, turn on phone.

And yeah, I did look at the link. My phone isn't there. Mine is a Samsung Galaxy S3.

I went over the things you suggested and tweaked it to suit what you wrote.

But no dice.

Oh dear. No. I was meaning about the factory reset. Doing that would of course blow out everything. Unless of course you do a backup.

The link I gave you was for the Galaxy S3. The first link. Not the APN one.

@Jacks  Do you mean a network reset?  I just googled it:

Samsung Galaxy J3 V / J3 (2016) - Reset Network Settings
  1. From a Home screen, navigate: Apps > Settings. > Backup and reset. These instructions apply to Standard mode only.
  2. Tap Reset network settings.
  3. Tap RESET SETTINGS.
  4. If applicable, enter the PIN, password, fingerprint, or pattern then tap RESET SETTINGS again to confirm.

Using Google.. I figured out how to do a factory reset. Is that a bad idea?

Did you review that link I posted earlier?

Are you well settled in to that phone? Or is it mostly new to you and you're starting fresh with it?

Sorry, when I wrote (checked off) I meant there's a check mark in there... so it's on!  😛

There's only a few options with the APN types. It was either "Internet" or "Internet + MMS" or "MMS"

@Jacks Ok then Internet + MMS is correct. To do a network reset do the following:

Settings - System - Advanced - Reset Options - WiFi, Mobile and Bluetooth

No I meant let the scan keep going. Which you have now so don't look at that again.

Did you turn on Mobile data?

Done! And Public Mobile did come up!

When I clicked on it, it said "Registered on network"

But data still isn't working.

I went to the Mobile Networks... and there are five options.

- Mobile data (checked off) "Enable data access over mobile network"

- Data roaming (unchecked)

- Access Point Names

- Network mode LTE/WCDMA/GSM (auto connect) (checked)

  •  The other options here are WCDMA/GSM (auto connect), WCDMA only, or GSM only

- Network operators "Select a Network Operator"

  • When I clicked here to see if Public Mobile might be available... a "Searching" window popped up and continued searching for a long time till I clicked away or the phone went to sleep.

Well...obviously to use cell data you're going to need Mobile Data on.

The searching for networks is troubling when you have talk and text working. Just let it go.

@Jacks  You should let it complete the search until it find the Public Mobile network.

Did you go through all of this stuff?

And then find your phone on this list:

@Jacks  By reset do you mean that did a factory reset? If yes, then you need to add the APN again. APN Type should be default,MMS not sure we're you got internet + MMS from.

Nvm. I just tried.. but it won't let me edit it.

Jacks

Oh! I didn't think of that!

I can still do it. The old network is still there...

Should I?

Jacks

My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S3.

Talk and texting both work.

I'm a new customer. Just set up my account.

I did reboot the phone... but I'm not sure what you mean by "network reset." You need to walk me though the steps.

@Jacks  Go into settings -> Network & Internet ->Mobile Network and make sure Automatically select network is enabled.

@Jacks  next time instead of adding PM 's settings as a new one just select the old carriers and overwrite them.

Some phones don't allow edit or deletion of preset APN but it's worth trying. It's also worth trying to delete all extra APN if the phone allows.

@Jacks , usually this means that the APN type field does not have default in it.  The APN type field should have the following entry.  Give it a try.

default,supl,mms
