Re: Phone use in Mexico

Hi, just curious how it turned out for you with the Mexico question. I am currently in Mexico and do NOT have a Mexico plan, but am receiving texts fine, and I have sent some fine as well, to Canadian numbers. I am nervous to be charged extra, but maybe it's fine. I cannot make normal calls.

Hey, it turned out well. . .no extra charges or anything like that. I’ve since signed up for a plan to include Mexico, USA, and Canada. . .looking forward to return to Mexico in the spring and see how well my phone works

Hi, it's working to receive and send texts with normal sms, not WhatsApp or other apps that use data. And I have an Adroid. Bizarre, but fine!

once you get away from a wifi signal, I 'spect the messaging will stop until you're again connected to wifi.

TextNow also works if connect to wifi.

@AlienVille

if you an send and receive "sms", I am pretty sure you are not using sms but RCS on Android

I am not surprise you might receive true sms for free, this is something that the provider usually let it goes through on purpose, but for sure not sending text.  The text you believe you are sending is just RCS, which works only when you have Wifi

Whatsapp does not work is normal as you don't have mobile data.  But it should still work with local Wifi

@AlienVille

if it works for you without the Mexico plan...you won't be billed later. Just enjoy it as long as it's working. You might be referring to iMessage..that works anywhere using your local wifi.

hi @AlienVille

if you have no Mexico plan, you won't get any services then, ie, no voice/data/text

so, only way to message with friends is to use iMessage or RCS or 3rd party app like Whatsapp with Wifi.  Or you can buy data eSIM or local data sim card
