says “waiting for activation”. I have read that it can take a few days to activate or am I doing something wrong?
Yes. I made a typo. Should have stayed “cannot send text messages from iPhone to non iPhone users)

Have you tried restarting your device since number porting was completed?
It does take a while, give it another day

Rcs is with data/internet not text messages (sms).
