Logic would dictate that RCS will count towards data usage since it's not much different than using WhatsApp or iMessage, for example but confirmation would be nice. Especially for times if sending large pictures or videos.
It looks like Telus is actively enabling RCS now on the network.

If that's the case then it's nice that it should work over wifi.
My brother doesn't enable his data unless he needs it. So RCS will work if he's on wifi and if he's not then RCS will just fallback to SMS/MMS.
I suppose the same plan limits still apply though. He's still on the old $10 plan. Even with RCS, I would assume the same 50 outgoing text limit applies.

As far as I know it does count toward your data usage and isn't zero rated.

While I have had RCS for a while on my android through it had stopped and I see it is up and working again. Will be interesting to see what the outcome is of this

@mattdxb , I do believe you are right. Chances are internet data will be used instead of traditional text messaging.
