Good morning
I will be travelling on business next week to the US.
I need to be able to keep in touch with my family in Canada while I'm away and need to be able to easily contact services such as Uber while I'm in the US.
I'm assuming that I would have to initiate the call, as my family are on Canada only plans?
If I change my subscription to the 39 dollar subscription for CA/US, will I be able to do this, without worry, of running out of minutes or other restrictions?
Thanks for any pointers 🙂

@kb_mv, now that I'm thinking about this more I believe you are correct, the call originating from Canada doesn't know where the other party is and really shouldn't matter as eventually the call will get routed. The customer who happens to be in the US should receive the call because they are connecting to a US carrier with the roaming option on but if a customer does not have US roaming or is in another country then the call would not get completed. Thanks @kb_mv for correcting this point.

hi @sulynsi2 yes, with the add-on that include roaming voicez people just call your Canadian number as usual and your phone in US would ring

Yes you would. If this is a one time trip then add-on would probably be better. Good for 15 days.

@eddieO @Sansan Correct me if I am wrong but the advice to @sulynsi2 that people need a long distance add on to call you while you are in the USA is wrong. If they are calling your Canadian number and you have the USA add on or a Can-US plan, it will go through. They do not need long distance USA add on to call you while you are in the US.

I also would recommend you select the add-on rather than changing to Cdn/US plan. The reason being, once you get home, you're stuck with that high priced plan...you can't easily downgrade to your cheaper plans once you have a high price plan.

@sulynsi2, be sure to have your Data roaming turned on while in the US and if you are experiencing poor signal you can manually switch between PM's US partner carriers (T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon) until you find one that works well but in general they should all be working fine.
For connecting with family back home in Canada you can also use apps like WhatsApp etc. if they do not have US long distance and they want to call you, otherwise you can call them and they should still be fine

hi @sulynsi2 yes, iPhone 10 would work VoTE without problem
add-on will be good. Get the $30 bundle, which gives you data/text/voice in US for 15 days

thank you for providing the whitelist - very helpful - I have an iphone 10 so that should be ok
If I bought the add-on, would I get the same service as a full subscription? and then be able to retain the plan I have now? thanks so much for you assistance

If you change your subscription NOW you will be immediately charged for new plan cost.
If this is only few days trip maybe USA add-on will be more cost effective. You will have to decide...

Hi,
The Canada-US plans allows for you to use your phone in both countries for unlimited calling, data and texts yes. If they do not have long distance calls then you have to call yes.
Some have indicated no issues using the service while others have indicated it never worked or that data worked but no calling. So it would depend for each individual, but I would say it should be ok.
There are no roaming fees or extra charges. It either works or not.
First you would need a phone on PM whitelist.

Keeping in mind that you might not be able to switch back to your original plan once you return or decide to change back.
A lot of restrictions on plan changes now.
