I set up a new plan with Phone Box and requested a port out to keep my number. PB set-up a new number for me and will port my number once I authorize Public Mobile but I have not received an email/SMS for this yet. How long does it take? Reading other conversations suggests this is a quick (within an hour) process usually. Thanks

As soon as your number is ported out your account is deleted.
You should remove autopay and credit card from your file, just in case.
You can check if your account is deleted by trying to log into it.
