Porting from VOIP.MS

Hi everyone,

I activated and ported my wife's phone number over from Telus on Friday and everything went smooth.

However for myself I tried to port a number from VOIP.MS and still can not receive phone calls or text messages. I can only make out going calls showing my number from VOIP.MS

Has anyone have any experience with porting from a VOIP company?

Thanks!

I am in the same situation. After porting my number from voip.ms, calls work, but text messages are not delivered to my phone.

I have already updated @Mary_M and waiting patiently Cat Frustrated

Public Mobile tech support (level 2) just fixed my text message sending/receiving.  Apparently the port from voip.ms was incomplete and left my text messaging setup still pointing back at their service.  Hope this turns up in the search for the next person.

Also, no $25 fee for me (I ported the number into voip.ms a year ago for safe-keeping).

Alright it seems the charge is there because you're porting from landline to mobile. Alright, fair enough, because I have a number originally with Vonage that I ported to Ooma. I suppose if I wanted to port it to mobile I'd expect a charge.

For porting from VOIP.MS I had to pay the port fee of $25 because the number belonged to them. I would assume if you ported in with the number the porting out should be free.

It appears to just take longer for porting from landlines or VOIP companies vs cellular companies.

Total time was over a week to be fully ported so just hang in there.

Even though I received a SMS saying my port was complete, my text messages still were not working u til couple days later.

According to the voip.ms rep.

If you ported your number in, then there is no port out fee.
They sell numbers expecting to be used with voip.ms so there may be a port out fee if you purchase a number from voip.ms and try to port it out.
However if you have used the number for some time, then there should not be a port out fee even for the numbers purchased from voip.ms

I think it's just to discourage people from abusing the system.

Wow, I'm surprised to hear about the $25 fee. Is this normal? Are companies allowed to charge for porting? I thought the number was yours, so you shouldn't be charged. Maybe it's different with VOIP but I'm wondering why the charge.

Any insight what changed?  I have the exact same situation - ported in from voip.ms, and texting doesn't work.  Sent messages show as sent but never arrive.  Messages to me get rejected with an error "Destination number _______ is not a valid SMS recipient".  I've done the basic troubleshooting steps Public Mobile support has walked me through so far but no success.

Everything is working but still no luck with sending or receiving text messages.

However I am still able to text with my old carrier VOIP.MS so I think my porting is still stuck.

Will need help pls to fix issue.

Oh you might be right then on your porting situation.

My VOIP.MS number was theirs originally so maybe that's why I got the fee.

But from what I gather is that number being ported from VOIP or landlines take longer vs cellular companies.

I think I may not have to pay the fee to port as this number was orginally mine, as I ported it to voip.ms about 5 months ago from Rogers and was charged a fee to do so.  Are you porting a number you obtained from voip.ms?

I guess all I can do now is wait.....

Your situation was exactly like mine when I first ported on Friday. Everything worked for me even texting but just no incoming calls.

This is the email address I got from VOIP.MS that asked if I authorized the port ( ports@voip.ms)

Until you pay the $25 transfer to VOIP.MS your number will not be ported.

This is the email that they sent to me:

Dear customer,
We have received a Port Out request for XXXXXXX, please note that there's a $25 fee to release this number, as per our Terms of Service 15 and 16.
Please note that you have until the end of the day to reply to this ticket letting us know if you authorize the transfer and the charge or to reject the port order. If no response is received, we will advise our carrier to reject the order until we have your response for this matter.

Very strange as I have not obtained any communication from voip.ms at all and was not charged anything and everything is working except incoming calls.

My DID is still assigned to me in my voip.ms console/website and I have not recevied a text or confirmation from PM indicating a sucessful port.

So for me I tried to port my VOIP.MS DID last Friday and got a message on my computer saying it was successful.

Outgoing calls and some text works but incoming calls still didn't come through.

On Monday I received an email from VOIP.MS if I authorize the release of the DID I wanted to port and that there is a $25 fee. I told them yes and they took $25 from my account and confirmed the transaction.

This morning (Wednesday) I received a text from PM saying my port is complete. So now my incoming calls finally work but not my text messages!

Text messages are still being sent to VOIP.MS server but calls are not working to my VOIP.MS DID. Buy my number is still in my VOIP.MS account.

@Tammer I am also trying to port from Voip.ms to Public mobile,  I have been waiting over 5 days now.

I can send/receive text messages and make outgoing calls, still can not receive calls though.

Did voip.ms e-mail you asking to provide approval for the port at all?  Is the DID (telephone number) still in assigned to you in your voip.ms account?

I finally got a text this morning that my port was complete.

Finally got incoming calls to work but now I am not getting any text messages sigh 😞

I've tried rebooting my phone and put my simcard in another phone still no text.

Anyone help? Thanks

Yes, voip services are notoriously slow porting. Use this process, Contact moderator if

a) no change after 7 days, or

b) incoming calls to your voip account stop and you cannot receive those calls with your PM account.

Landlines and voip port-ins test one's patience.

Welcome aboard. Well at least you have one foot on the deck! Robot LOL
