This is some information if you are planning on porting your existing Telus phone number to replace a public mobile number.
1. if your get an error when porting your number using your IMEI phone id, try using your Telus account number instead. This worked for me.
2. after porting my telus number, it work fine for calls but google messages still used the old public mobile number. I had to uninstall messages and re-install. worked fine after that.
Note: this was on a Pixel 7 phone.
