Poor data quality.

during the power outage last week I noticed how poor the data quality is that we have at our home with public mobile.  How can I check to see that it is in fact public mobile?  Is there a speed that I should be receiving? Is there a recommended testing app? What can be done to improve service.

@soakenwet   Yes, it could be related with the weather.

For the regular speed, depends on your plan:

  • if you are on a 3G speed plan should be 3Mbps if your are using LTE network or 10 Mbps if you are using 3G network
  • if you are on 4G speed plan, it could be as much as 100 Mpbs

There are apps to test the speed but not to improve it.  You can try speed app test like this https://www.speedtest.net/apps .  But please note that it can consume as much as 200 to 500 Mb for each test

However, you can try to change the network to 3G or WCDMA only (from Automatic or LTE) and it could improve the speed to 10-15 Mbps.  You can change to that temporary until the issue is fixed

It's quite likely the network was congested because, like you, many others were relying on their mobile phones during the outage.
