@computergeek541 has a keen eye. missing that 850mhz band is most likely the issue.

Perhaps, but it wouldn't make much sense to get a phone that doesn't have UMTS band 5. Doing that is asking for trouble, even if voice was possible most of the time on UMTS band 2.

The one model I did check didn't have that band by asking the OP which model they did have would enable me to check to see if it was compatible....if it was missing any other bandz.

@krazykatlady , if mobile data works but calling doesn't, my suspicions may be correct that this phone is not compatible. Overseas phones designed for Asia only do not have compatible 3G bands in North America which is needed for calling. However there are a few 4G bands that are compatible which supports data usage.

try this
- Scroll to and select Settings.
- Select More.
- Select Mobile networks.
- Select Preferred network mode.
- Select GSM\WCDMA (auto) to enable 3G
- OR GSM\WCDMA\LTE (auto) to enable 4G.
Try switching between these 2 settings.

@darlicious A phone not having 700MHz wouldn't prevent someone from using Public Mobile.

@krazykatlady can you first try your sim in the other sim slot and then test. if it's still not working, check your sim card settings and make sure the sim is enabled for both data and calls/texts. if you have another sim card try installing both, then setup the settings for the pm sim. or ask a family/friend to borrow a sim. some phones need both sims in the phone to configure the settings correctly

@krazykatlady Go into your phone's settings and make sure that it's not setup to use LTE only and also make sure that the network is set to automatic.

@krazykatlady public mobile calling uses 3g. Maybe your phone does not have the correct frequencies for public mobile.
What is the exact model of your phone?
Public Mobile utilizes the following frequency bands:
4G LTE and LTE Advanced:
700 MHz, 850 MHz, 1900 MHz and 2100 MHz downlink and 1700 MHz uplink (AWS)
HSPA:
850 MHz and 1900 MHz (UMTS)

@krazykatlady , please provide a model number for your phone. There is a possibility that there may be a compatibility issue. I would not necessarily be concerned the phone shows Telus. I have had a LG G4 which works on the Public Mobile network show Telus when connected.

You have a dual SIM phone. Do you still have a telus sim card in one of the slots?

Reset your network settings. Is the issue just with calling? Can you access data?

Hi, you can try:
1 putting your phone in Airplane mode then taking it off
2 restarting your phone
3 resetting all network settings
keep in mind sometimes when your phone is searching for a network it first will say “Telus” then after the names changes to “Public Mobile”
hope this works.

Do you have a Public Mobile SIM card? The one from Telus Mobility won't work here.

@krazykatlady , are you a new customer? Has this particular phone ever worked with the Public Mobile service? Is your self serve account showing as active? Additional information is needed in order to provide focused suggestions.
