Planned Telus network changes

I am concerned about planned Telus network changes that may affect PM customers. I feel my Mint service has been negatively affected by Tmobile network changes and fear the same may happen with Telus. Where can i find details on these changes?

Yes, I can get 5G in that area, but LTE is more reliable than 5G.  If you are talking, both 4G and 5G will drop the call, and sometimes require the phone to reboot before reconnecting.  3G would lose some words for a couple of minutes, but then start working properly again when you reach the other side.  Sometimes it would receive, but not transmit so the other person could keep talking.  Of course, the area is marked as fully operational on the coverage maps.  I have a booster that is 3G/LTE, but I don’t find it really helps with LTE.

hi @Moon_mack

i think they are realigning those bands for 5G

do you have any 5G signal in your area?

I was wondering if this means that LTE service will get better.  I had been using 3G service in a rural area because the reception was better.  I don't necessarily mind 3G going away if it means I can get reliable LTE service in this area.  Is this a realistic hope, and if so how long would it take to notice the improvement?

Thanks, hoping so!

hi @PBRick

you are safe.  Moto G Stylus 5G 2022 is on the list, all the models after will work with PM's VoLTE, so, your 2023 will be good

hi @PBRick

what phone do you have? which area you are at?

I wouldnt worry about it YET. Eventually,  you might start noticing dropped calls, no ring tones.

But that list is about 2 years old. From my understanding,  if you have a Samsung or Apple you should be good. It's mostly the non North American phones that are mostly affected.

Thanks, well that does concern me, as my phone is not on the VoLTE 'PM approved' list, even though its a 2024 model. Recommended solution is to go to Telus? What the heck?

@PBRick , what phone are you currently using.  It seems to me the VoLTE whitelist is pretty much a listing of popular carrier brands, so having a phone on the whitelist is a sufficient but not necessary condition for expecting VoLTE compatibility.  I have several phones that are not on the VoLTE whitelist that work fine.  If you provide the model information, other customers might be able to weigh in with their personal experiences.

Basically 3G is going away soon in Canada. You just need to makes sure you have a phone that can work on Public Mobile.

To confirm if your phone will work with Public Mobile, please see this link. These are currently and mildly out of date lists of what can work.
