Picture texts - iPhone settings to avoid using my data plan?

What should my various iPhone settings ("Cellular", "Messages"...) be in order to send/receive picture texts without using my data plan allowance?

I have a limited data plan for emergency use only.  I realize that a data plan is required to send/receive picture texts but presumably "unlimited" picture texts aren't counted against my data plan.  How does this work?  How am I able to send/receive unlimited picture texts without using up my prepaid data?

@YVRK  - Correct about this.

If using iMessage and in wifi, you do not need DATA enabled on your device.

If you are not in wifi, and using MMS, you need to ensure SMS, MMS and DATA is enabled to send / receive MMS texts.

Just toggle DATA on / off as needed when not in wifi.

@YVRK  turn off iMessage and send Picture text with traditional MMS instead

1. Open Settings.

2. Tap on Messages (it should be about halfway down the column that starts with "Passwords & Accounts").

3. Tap on iMessage so the green toggle goes to gray.

4. Go back to  Settings.

5. Tap on Messages (it should be about halfway down the column that starts with "Passwords & Accounts").

6. Scroll down to the column with the heading "SMS/MMS" and if necessary tap on "MMS Messaging" to turn the toggle green.

Please remember to keep Mobile Data on when you are sending MMS or waiting for one.  It does need Mobile Data enabled but it won't count towards your data usage

@YVRK   You do need the correct APN settings and data enabled on your phone to send/receive MMS, however, sending and receiving picture messages won't deduct from your plan data.

You can try this link for APN settings:  https://apn-canada.gishan.net/en

 @YVRK : Just turn off all the apps that you don't want doing anything on the internet until you want them to. That way turning on cellular data will consume less data. And turn off updating OS and app updates over cellular.

But you should be able to send photos to/from other iphones using wifi.
