Phone number

FishBowl

I activated my number recently and I think someone else and I have the same number. When my friends try to text me it goes to someone else instead of me and they are receiving texts from my number which I didn't send. My friend tried calling my number and it went to someone else as well. What should I do or who should I contact?

@FishBowl

Which provider did you originally get your phone number from? If it was telus, koodo or pm and the other customer assigned with the number has already changed their phone number then it couldn't hurt to ask if it would be possible to get your old number back. Seeing as you have already been in  contact with a CSA.

That would cause the situation that you've described in your first post.  A suspended number cannot be ported over.  I believe that what has happenend is that the old carrier reassigned it to a new customer because it was inactive. At that point, you would have lost the phone number. When porting into Public Mobile, the validity of the number porting request isn't fully checked.  Public Mobile would assign the phone number to your account even if the porting request is would fail.   As I was saying, there are two ways this could happen, either in error by Public Mobile, or from me seeing your reply, a request was made to port the number in if it was inactive (and already re-assigned to someone else).

@FishBowl   you can stop the email notification by coming here:

https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/user/myprofilepage/tab/user-subscriptions:notificatio...

and turn off all email notification

Oh no it didn't get resolved yet, I left a message for the agents and am waiting for their reply. I just didn't know how to stop the email spamming that's why I selected an answer, sorry I didn't know how to change the notification settings

Also, the other person who had the same number already changed theirs, so I'm waiting to see if I would be able to keep this one then. Now when my friends try to call my number it says that it's out of service, but they are still getting my calls and texts

@FishBowl   no worry.. they are just discussing about the rule in the forum.

So, you picked a solution already, was the issue resolved?  did PM found out what was the issue yet?

I have changed that because for this type of situation, this does not need a CSA's help. Yes, it may be good to make Public Mobile aware of the issue, but this is a system error and a new number will need to be chosen. That doesn't need the help of a CSA.  This has been a long time issue within the Telus brands that causes them to accidently assign a number that is already active.

@FishBowl   no worry.. not about what you posted but just discussing about the rule in the forum.

wait I'm so confused.. what's this about

@FishBowl then it is a different issue.. did the calls never get to your phone now or just occasionally??

if occasionally,  next time ask your friend to ask the other party if he has the same number

I ported it from another provider. I had this number for over two years and had it suspended for a little while

Here's the question, @FishBowl

Did you PORT the number from another provider or activate at Public Mobile with a NEW number?

If you were porting (moving from another mobile provider to Public Mobile), then it's YOUR number and the other user is the one who will need a new number.

If you activated with a NEW number, it's likely you'll need to change your number.

@FishBowl

It could be the number got given out wrong.  How long you have activated the line?  Did call ALWAYS get to someone else and never reach you? If so, It could be the number got given out wrong.   Unfortunately, this is a weird glitch that Telus/Kood/PM has

Since the number is already owned by someone and PM was given out by mistake, you have no chance to keep this number.  Please login to My Account and click Change Number and select a new one
