As it was Telus initially said "no" to unlimited data for a few days when Rogers and Bell brought it out...Then they did finally cave and follow suit. Now all 3 have bumped up their unlimited data options to 512kbps overage, which is plenty to run Spotify/Deezer on High setting.
Chatr had unlimited data for a while at 64kbps (which is often just low enough to not run Deezer fluidly on low) and now Lucky Mobile has followed suit but upped the offering to 128kbps, which is good enough to maintain sufficient speed for fluid audio. Currently all but the $15 Lucky (voice) plan has the unlimited data.
So it's a slow-moving iceberg, but now that the main 2 competitors have it, when do you think reluctant-old Telus will let PM follow suit? It's becoming difficult to be a loyal holdout.

@Lowufo Below is the screenshot of Lucky Mobiles 25$ plan. Just like PM, its 500mb + bonus autopay 500 mb data allotment at '3G' speeds (throttled LTE at 3 mbps). But they have the unlimited data at 128 kbps. That speed is more than enough for whatsapp messaging, google maps and even spotify streaming. Yes, they dont have PM's 2$ autopay discount or referral or community rewards but for speefic users and their use case (i am one of them) it would be really helpfull.

I just had a look at the Lucky and Chatr sites and I see no mention of unlimited data. Their plans are very similar in price and offerings to Public Mobile

I keep getting notifications of this thread everyday which means that several of PM's customers do want the unlimited throttled data. Too bad PM doesnt care :(.

Other providers offered "unlimited" Data before Lucky did, without any history of free-Spotify services.
I also doubt any special dedicated audio-streaming hardware was ever built into Videotron's network.
And compare vs Telus (and Koodo and Public) network which *does* have built-in transcoding hardware for "wireless video experience optimization"... I very much doubt any Telus company would ever offer free video streaming simply because they already have the hardware installed.

I think the issue came up a few years ago when Videotron decided to allow Spotify, etc. to not consume your data allowance. I'm not saying it's a bad thing in this instance, but it can be a touchy subject when a particular service (even internal) is not treated the same as another.

Doesn't involve online censorship or information control, doesn't involve online "privacy", doesn't involve sensitive or criminal topics (DMCA, piracy, hacking, pornography, politics, religion, hate speech, etc). So I'd say it doesn't have anything to do with net neutrality. Especially since no information is being withheld and no services are being denied - your PM Self-Serve account is still fully accessible from any other machine with an active internet connection.

That is a great point. Since their support is online only we definitely should be able to access that at least.

You're right. They should be linked or Community account should be optional and customers contact moderators using self serve.

Access to Self-Serve (without any Data remaining) would be smart, no access to Self-Serve is dumb.
Access to PM Community seems iffy... knowledge base, guides, answers, advice, troubleshooting, support... I think it's necessary as long as it remains *the only way to contact PM* (msg the Mods or Simon chatbot).
Unless PM put some sort of "Contact Us" form on the main page. (As in an actual way to send them an actual message, not a summary of where else you can go to contact them.)
Or unless PM made Simon accessible (to PM customers) through an SMS number.
Not sure why we should have to logon to Community to get our responses - this ain't last decade anymore - we already have phones which can send us notifications, texts, voicemails, and emails. Already carrying everything we need (and PM needs) to provide proper communication and faster service.

That is a great point. Since their support is online only we definitely should be able to access that at least.

I realize that most people do have home internet service. However, since Public Mobile customer support is online only, running out of data means that customers have to use a different internet connection to get customer service. At the very least, I believe that Self Serve and Community data use should be zero rated.

@MitchRuns I personally don't think we are getting this feature. If PM wanted to react to Lucky they would have done it by now. I am plannin to wait until end of this year to see if there are any new offers from PM and others and take a decision. I am not sure if 'many' people want this feature, but for my specific use case it would be just perfect.
Yeah... Lucky is looking more and more like a better option for me every day.

You don't need to flex how much you spend on your phone bill. You don't see others flexing how they don't roam around these forums all day for discounts/PM credits/golden star because they want to live their life, but I digress.
128 Kbps is good for -
1. Messaging apps like Discord and Telegram.
2. Occasional Google search
3. Google Maps look-up (granted your area is saved locally)
etc.
Though Public Mobile doesn't need to offer unlimited data as the discounts/PM credits are a good alternative. Would be nice though. I use Discord with friends, would be nice to always be connected.

I am plannin to wait until end of this year to see if there are any new offers from PM and others and take a decision. Both my parents are on pm $25 plan. One always goes over from messaging on WeChat and WhatsApp. I'm really close on moving her over to lucky

SaskTel provides 2Mbps/1Mbps (that's 2000kbps/1000kbps, about 879MB per hour, over 20GB per day) in "unlimited" data. Not "uselessly slow" when you consider throttled "3G" is only 3000kbps.

I buy a plan that is right for me, or bigger. Right now, I use less than half my 90 day allotment of 12 GB. I also pay less than $10 every 90 days.

Chatr... 64kbps/64kbps
Freedom... 128kbps/64kbps 3G (only in Freedom Zones), 256kbps/128kbps LTE (only in Freedom Zones)
Telus, Bell, Rogers... 256kbps/256kbps (most areas) or 512kbps/256kbps (some areas)
Koodo, Virgin, Fido, Public... no "unlimited" "endless" "infinite" data offered
Public simply isnt competing with its competitors (Lucky and Chatr). Nor does Lucky need to offer more, it's already ahead of its competitors (Public and Chatr), it doesn't want to cannibalize or de-value Bell/Virgin.
Freedom is the outlier... it can be a good deal if you (and the people you call) are in the Zone, it's a lousy option (or not an option at all) outside the Zone. And it turns out that Freedom Zones are always the same areas that Telus, Bell, and Rogers prioritize for hardware deployments.

@smp99 I just checked their website and it still says 128 kbps. If they are upping the speed to 512 kbps, it's a no brainer for me to switch to Lucky. Let's see if this is actually true. @PM mods, can you acknowledge tht Lucky is actually upping their game and tht you are not throwing your hat in the ring?

Same, that's why I lowered PM to next to nothing just to keep it alive while I wait for them to catch up. If they can't be bothered, they'll eventually lose me indefinitely, but I really like them and want to stay with them.
PS: I've noticed that Lucky rounds data to 1KB but Public rounds data to 10KB... This may impact how much data you actually get either way.

@jor123 It is. I guess I am too lazy to get a sim and do the whole porting thing..lol. a friend suggested to wait until end of this year to see if PM will come up with something. I will probably move to Lucky then. Apart from this particular feature, PM has been great with auto pay and 1 referral discount.
