No cellphone coverage - Yukon

I live in Whitehorse, YT; most of the time I have no cellphone coverage even when I'm in the downtown area. Other people have 4 bars, I have 1; even when I have full cellphone service (full bars), I keep getting a note that there is no cellphone or internet connection. It is getting frustrating. Are any other users in this area experiencing the same problem? Basically, I can use the phone only when it's connected to Wi-Fi.

I have VoLTE, but I haven't tried roaming yet. I will be trying mid-May in an area that I know I had no service last November when I was there.

@DennyCrane- Were you another one that got volte and used it roaming successfully?

Have you been upgraded to VoLTE yet? Is it possible that the 3G equipment is being phased out there (complete speculation)?

@fbotca

There's not really a lot of towers out there (on the map). Just enough coverage for the main population centers. And almost entirely Bell equipment (which is supposed to be shared with Telus, but still it is not Telus).

Your phone could have weak battery. More important in radio operation than many people think. If it's not a new battery then you can check it with software.

If you can, try testing your SIM card in somebody else's phone. One which gets 4 bars at the same time and place yours gets one. Easy enough to tell if the problem is your phone or your local network.

@fbotca any of your friends using Telus/Koodo/Bell/Virgin/Lucky?  These all share the same network towers and should have the same coverage, good or bad.  Also, does it help if your change the Preferred network type or network mode to 3G or WCDMA only??
