I have never had Data before. Can someone give me a general timeframe on how long 500mb would be? Does it use more data depending on what you are doing? I.e. social media, vs. watching a movie?
Thanks!

I would first like to mention for you to avoid running speed tests as that will use a lot of data. You’re on the Telus network and it’s the fastest in Canada. It’s around 3Mbps so I’d say around 5 minutes. Social media can be quite troublesome with autoplay videos that use data a lot. I would say try your normal routine then in a few days check your usage and check from your cellular settings on your phone.

If you're waching a movie, you're likely to use it up in 1 to 2 hours (less if the resolution is high).

@Stitchy everybody's usage pattern is different, so it's hard to say how long 500mb will last.

@Stitchy The good thing here is that there are no data overages. You won't be charged any extra. When you reach your limit of data it stops working until you either buy a data add on ($15 per GB) or you renew or upgrade your plan.

@Stitchy I leave mine on but my phone is set to connect to wifi as a first choice. Plus I do not have wifi assist turned on. This will sometimes switch your wifi feed to cell data if the signal degrades. I also don't allow updates unless connected to wifi. Plus your data has to be turned on to send and receive MMS, though they do not count towards your data limits.

Do you ever leave the data on? Or do you just turn it on when you need it?

Here is an article that will give you a general idea.

@Stitchy if you are just checking emails chatting it will probably last the cycle if you watch a movie probably 30 minutes if your lucky video is very consuming also do not run a speed test lol

@Stitchy I have only 250MB of data and between that and free wifi, I never go over. I don't stream movies or play online games though. Those will eat up your data pretty quick. I do read news, do social media stuff the odd map directions.
