Good afternoon all. My wife wants to switch to public mobile. The guy at the store said PM was not taking on new accounts. I see you can still purchase SIM cards online. If I buy ne, is she ok to set up a new account. Thanks in advance.

Sorry, but that isn't correct. As @dust2dust it's usually going to be Telus corporately run locations that have Public Mobile SIM cards.

The actual truth is that retailers no longer do activations. And even fewer (corporate stores only) sell sims. Public will be happy to see you come on board. Buy the sim in those few stores or online preferably from Amazon as the fulfillment from Public is very slow.
Adding - if you're with Public then don't forget to use your referral code during her activation.
