New Public Mobile customer. Did not receive transfer SMS from old provider

Hi there

I am a brand new Public Mobile customer.  I requested to Transfer my Number via the app.  My old provider is Zoomer Wireless (Cityfone).  It has been about 90 minutes since I requested the port and I never received an SMS from Zoomer

I had my old SIM in my phone the entire time.  Now my the status icon on my phone is showing zero bars.  Not sure it'll be possible to receive any SMS with zero bars

Should I continue waiting?  Or is there something that needs to be done?  Thank you

Unforutnatley, none of this gives any indication that porting has completed.  The 2FA messages from Public Mobile and messages sent to yourself would be received even if porting had failed.  This is because the messages are originating from within Telus.  The same is soemtimes also true for phone calls.  You're going to need to test if porting is done by having someone call or send an SMS messages from a non-Telus servi8ce.  Also, when it comes to the phone number that your phone shows, it would show the number that you requested even if the port hadn't completed.

how would i go about doing that? I was just on the phone with the port team and they put in my IMEI that works for the sim check but now just sent me a message saying there is trouble transferring my number over.  A couple of hours ago I tried changing my number I am trying to port to a random temporary number but the port team guy said I should do that because it would confuse the system

HI@GloopGloop

another way is to get a new temporary phone number first, then open ticket with PM agent and ask them to help with the porting

ok that is weird, I tried giving my imei and it rejects it and whatever variation of account number i give also seems to result in errors.

I actually used my IMEI number instead. Didn't want to deal with any ambiguity re. the number of digits

How many digits did you put for the zoomer account number? I keep having errors putting in the original number or adding a 0 or adding 2 0's.

HI @pyr0sphere

Perfect.

test calling yourself from another phone, if the PM phone rings, then poring is all done.

Thank you very much for finding that. That gives me peace of mind that my port was indeed successful

Hi @pyr0sphere

According to @Blizzie_Thumdet  on this post:

https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Get-Support/Porting-from-Zoomer-Cityfone-to-Public-Mo...

Zoomer does not send a text message to confirm porting out. Or, so I've been told by the Zoomer customer service agent when I called Zoomer at 1-888-281-2107 to confirm the port-out was complete today (June 26, 2023).

Hope this helps others switching from Zoomer.

HI @pyr0sphere

you need an active account on your old carrier to transfer number.  You should call Zoomer wireless first to ask if they can just take a verbal approval of the porting,.  But you probably need to reactivate your Zoomer account to port

Just an update:  I swapped my SIM over to the Public Mobile one and everything seems to be working.  When I go to About Phone, I see my old phone number and it shows my carrier as Public Mobile

I did not receive any SMS from my old carrier to transfer and therefore not did reply YES to anything.  Is it possible for the port to process successfully without this step?  It seems to have worked but I'm a bit skeptical

Thank you for the quick response

This might be a silly question, but as I no longer have service to my old provider, I'll need to do a SIM swap.  I know that the guide says to leave your old SIM in until you receive the transfer SMS.  Just wanted to confirm that I should go ahead and swap to my new Public Mobile sim (as otherwise I'll have no other way of calling)
