New Account

I just opened an account and I believe after some struggles, I activated the new eSIM successfully. I am in the middle of transferring my old number over and was told I’d be given a temp number but I can’t make any calls? Did this happen to anyone?

Hi I tried to attach a screenshot of what I thought was a message telling me I’d have a temporary number. It is through Public Mobile that I can’t make any calls. Looks like my old carrier already deactivated my account when I initiated the transfer.

That's interesting because Public Mobile doesn't assign a temporary number (unless that has been changed very recently).  Accross all Telus brands, temporary numbers have never been assigned in that fasion for the purposes of number porting.

@Sandys125  Call a friend ask them does the correct number show up is one way , another way is to try your old providers sim in the phone if it doesn’t work then your golden the ports complete . And welcome to public mobile 🙂

I restarted it and it worked! Thanks for the timely replies. If this is the case with the porting, how do we know when the transfer/porting process is complete? Thanks again!

Hi! I restarted and I tried to make some calls and it worked! Weird cause I had already restarted twice before this. How do we know if the porting process is done?

@Sandys125 look like you don't have another sim card on your phone.  From what it is showing, it is correct and you do not need to do anything with the PM sim.

However, check my post above about the port authorization text from your old provider

@Sandys125  Try resetting network settings

 @Sandys125

from the screenshot, look like the esim is working if you have only PM esim on your phone and not your old sim

for porting, there is NO  temperory number at all.   This is what happens, before the porting is done, your new sim (PM) will be able to connect to the network and make outgoing calls and text.   At the same time, your old sim from your old provider will be fully functioning (able to make outgoing calls/text and receive incoming).

But you do need your old provider sim card back to a phone if you have not replied to the porting authorization text.  Critical part to porting is to receive a text from your old provider and you have to reply YES within 90 mins.  Have you replied that text yet?

Did the Public Mobile app tell you that you'd receive a tempoary phone number? That information would be incorrect as there is no tempoary phone number.  Public Mobile immediately assigns the requested number to be ported in to your Public Mobile account.  As for not being able to making outgoing calls, is that when using old carrier or when using the Public Mobile service?

Hi!
Thanks for the speedy reply. Yes and yes. I can see I have bars in the top right corner and I completely removed my old physical SIM after replying yes to the text and got confirmation from my old provider that the transfer has been accepted and is in progress.

@Sandys125  Did you reply YES to the confirmation text from old provider leaving old provider sim in the  phone ? . Check sim manger in phone settings is PM esim enabled / set to primary
