I just got a text from Public Mobile saying they are performing network upgrades and my device may experience degraded or no service after June 3, and gives me Telus promo code(that is only valid if I activate a new device). Any ideas what these network upgrades are? How long will they last? Is this just a ploy to get me to switch to a pricier Telus plan?
Any insight is appreciated!

@BoydRoss @Bojangles13 @Stephen12341 @mh1983_2 I wouldn't worry about it. Most customers won't notice a difference. The same scenario happened in Winnipeg and Brandon a few years ago.
A very small number of customers who were outside of 1900 MHz coverage but still within 850 MHz coverage experienced issues.
I would wait and if you notice you can't make calls in places that you could previously, then you can consider switching providers.

Thank you for the detailed explanations @Dunkman and @hairbag1. I guess it would be too much to ask if PM could have put the link in the text to make it easy to find. Like @Stephen12341 I am very peeved about the very short notice too!
Perhaps interestingly, my phone does tell me that VoLTE is "enabled" on my current cell connection right now (which is Public Mobile) even though my model not on the list. I guess I will wait until Tuesday and see if I can still make calls!

Public mobile has been slowly rolling out these network changes. I have seen some customers not even getting the text warnings unfortunately.

Your phone is not VoLTE compatible to PM network, so you will likely have talk issues with your phone. Without the 850 Mhz 3G band, your phone will be dependent on the 1900 Mhz 3G band. The device's ability to connect to the 1900 MHz network depends on the customer's device and location, as this frequency has a more limited range compared to 850 MHz.
Please read my previous post and you will likely need to upgrade your phone if you want to stay with Public mobile.

Telus is refarming the 850 Mhz 3G to LTE. Public mobile has determined that your phone likely will have issues with this network change.

Which phone are you using? If your phone is VoLTE compatible with Public mobile, these phones will not have issues with this network change.
Telus and even Koodo has a more extensive list of VoLTE compatible phones that work on their networks (even though they share the same network as Public mobile). The main reason is that Public mobile only introduced VoLTE from 2022. So the phone manufacturers had to turn on "VoLTE" for their phones VoLTE to work with Public mobile network. Many manufacturers have not done this for their older phones.
So, if you moved to Telus and likely Koodo, your VoLTE on your present phone will likely work fine with their network.
If you want to stick with Public mobile, you will need to upgrade your phone. Here is a list of VoLTE compatible phones for PM network:

Depending on where you are, you may need a cellphone that has VoLTE recognized by Public Mobile, in order to continue having talkabilty. What make / model is your cell ?
