Hi
Some of us received a text about PM network update with the possibility that our phones may not be able to make calls after the 17th. I personally can still make calls/texts..clear no issues. Has anyone else who received the text had any issues? Did PM do the update, or are they rolling it out slowly? I am happy that all is well on my end but still curious.
thanks

@Stirling182 I think switching from LTE to 4G on calls means it is not using VoLTE, which would be expected given that it's not on the PM VoLTE whitelist. My understanding, and hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong, is that some phones (such as Samsung) may show 4G when it's really 3G. In other contexts 4G and LTE are regarded as more or less synonymous but this is a rather confusing grey area. The main thing is that your phone still works!

phones have never been my thing. I didn't get my first cell until I was 50 since I worked at home and had a landline:)
I says LTE but I was sure it said LTE+ for a second. When I call it says 4G

@Stirling182 It's just a test to see what the phone is doing and confirm whether it is using VoLTE or not. You have to turn wifi off and cellular data on to see the LTE symbol at the top of the phone and what it changes to, if anything, when you make the call. Otherwise the phone is fine as you have it, it'll still work as long as it has the 3G band needed. Eventually 3G will be shut down as it has been in the USA but so far only Rogers has announced that as happening soon on their system (July). Also different carriers have different VoLTE whitelists. Public Mobile's is rather limited in what phones it enables VoLTE.

I never have wifi or data on when calling....I might be the only one on the planet that doesn't care about surfing on my phone...I just want it to ring. Could that be the reason?

@Stirling182 Galaxy A12 is not on the PM VoLTE approved list, you can test it by toggling wifi off but keeping cellular data on and then making a phone call. A VoLTE phone should stay on LTE and not drop to 3G (or some phones say 4G when they mean an enhanced 3G).

hi @Stirling182
first, what phone you are using? the change might not really impact you as much as the text said
what is happening is PM is realigning the 3G-850 band in some area. So, for those area, only 3G-1900 will be available. if your phone is not on the VoLTE whitelist, your phone will need to have the 3G-1900 for voice calls to work.
So, what phone do you have?
