I can't think of any possible scenario that this could be done by "accident".  For the phone number to be released by Public Mobile to Freedom Mobile, Freedom would have to receive key Public Mobile account information such as the account number.  This port should have been rejected and the number should never have left Public.  So If Public did somehow approve a phone number transfer when no valid verification of account information was given for porting out, Public Mobile has to share responsbility for that.

Public Mobile absolutely should have a procedure to follow for an unauhtorized phone number port out and they should be able to reverse it.  However, this isn't likely something that the first line of customer service would likely be able to do without first escalating it furhter up the support ladder.

@ljvanweerden, don't waste time contacting the moderator team.  Once a port is submitted by Freedom Mobile and the number has left the premises here, there is nothing people here can do unless the number is residing in an active Freedm Mobile account that you own.  If this were the case you can open up a new account and port the number back in.  Asking the moderator team to work on a closed account on this end to retrieve a number that is in limbo at the Freedom end amounts to asking them to push rope.  At this point, the Freedom rep needs to assist you with retrieving the number and placing it in an active account so that you can then decide to do whatever you want to do with the number.

@ljvanweerden

As stated above, you will need to contact moderator to see whether they can get your phone number back.  Unfortuantely, it will take 1-2 days for the moderators to respond.  It was Freedom mobile's error in the first place....

You might just want to send the moderators a message anyway as they can't locate your account and validate your identity without the required information.

Also where did the number originate?  Public Mobile?  Telus or Koodo?  Or some other carrier?  It's being controlled now by whoever originally owned the number.

The Freedom rep ported your wife's number to Freedom and then cancel the Freedom account.  Am I right?

When Freedom ported your wife's number to Freedom, PM have not control your wife's number any more.  When Freedom rep cancelled the new Freedom account, your wife number will be back to the carrier who provided that number.  Freedom has no control of your wife's number any more.  What a mess!

When you call your wife's number, what message do you get?

Which carrier gave your wife's phone number?

If your wifes's number was originally coming from Telus/Koodo/PM, you can get that number back.
