Need extended US roaming add-on

Murlyn

We are going to the States for 3 months and I need a US roaming add-on for that period. I've never done this before and I want things to work when we get down there.

Do I have to buy individual 2 week add-ons, and do each add-on when the prior one is running out? What a pain if that's the case.

Also, I have just a basic Cdn talk and text plan. If I were to cross over the border using only that plan, could I incur roaming charges or would my phone just not work?

@Murlyn I recently returned from a 2 week trip through a big swath of the east / south USA. I have a Pixel 5 and a Samsung Flip 4. Both phones were set to 5G preferred connection without issue. I am on a 5G 50GB Can-USA plan. I had no issues with leaving the phone to sort out what connection it wanted. My review is at the link below;

Thank you.

@Murlyn  You can use any network 4G/LTE or 5G regardless of the plan your on it’s just about speed and will be throttled accordingly. But when in the U.S. it’s easier to connect to 4G/LTE but you can certainly play with all setting and see what one works best for you

I just re-read this. Currently my Cdn plan is only 4G but my phone is set to 5G and everything works fine.

If a person buys a 5G international package, do I still stay at 5G setting? And if I buy a 4G plan, is that when I need to change my phone to 4G/LTE?

@Murlyn  No worries if you picked wrong plan for next renewal you can cancel it . Go to your account subscriptions add on and cancel it and choose the right one

Oops, I took a 'grab' of the wrong plan... yes, I did see for new activations on that one. My renewal was on the 1st, so I will lose the rest of the month. Oh well. ;>)

Thank you very much. You've been most helpful.

@Murlyn  Yes roaming included in both those plans but one is just for new activations the $30 plan , but we can only switch to the plans that are available to us in our accounts can’t go by website so check it out and see what’s available to you . And if your renewal day is before you intend to leave be sure to use the “change on renewal option” and not immediately or you lose money on your current cycle PM is pre paid and no refunds/pro rating

Thank you for your reply. Based on information I'm learning, I think I'm best to just upgrade to an international plan for just a few dollars more than my current plan. I assume roaming is included with the international plans?International 4G 20GB plan.pngInternational 4G 50GB plan.png

@Murlyn  Yes the CAN/US plans have roaming built into it . So be sure to turn on  roaming in phone settings . And when in the U.S. set phone to 4G/LTE not 5G and make sure your connected to T mobile / AT&T or Verizon and yes your pixel 7 is in the PM voLTE whitelist

Thank you for your prompt reply. I think I'm best to go for that international plan and just keep it. It's only $6/mo more than my current Canada plan.

I do have one question: Is roaming included with that package... nothing else necessary to buy?

And last, I have a Pixel 7, so I believe it's a VoLTE enabled phone.

Hi,

If you have just a Canadian plan, your phone will not work in the US. Here will be no roaming fees. Just won't work. You would only be able to use your phone through wifi. No calls. No data.

Each add-ons are good for 15 days only. Then expires. Then you have to wait 24 hours to purchase the same. Probably will be a pain to manage.

Since you'll be away for 3 months, it'll probably be better to get the US-Canada package.

The downside of that is that when you come back to Canada if you decide you no longer want that plan, you might find that they're only offering you more expensive plans than what you originally have right now. And be stuck will higher plan than you want.

Then you have to consider if you have a VoLTE enabled phone on PM whitelist.  Very important.  Check your phone on this list.

@Murlyn  No it will start as soon as you purchase it so just buy before you go , you have to wait until 24 hours after the first one ends to rebuy same US roaming add on or buy different package or once the first one ends you can get support to apply the very same US add on back to back with out 24 hour wait

submit ticket with support . using the chat bubble bottom right of screen
