I initiated a transfer 5 hours ago and I still have the SOS message in my phone with no data or cell service.
I have an email from Telus mobility confirming that the transfer started but nothing has happened.

are you using a hard sim or esim ?
For hard sim, leave the old one in the cell until it quits working, then install the new Public Mobile sim.
