MMS stopped working

CalvinW

Like so many others, my MMS just stopped working all of a sudden. Changing the APN settings and contacting CS agents did nothing to fix the issue. I have the OnePlus 7 Pro, and it's a 2019 phone. Dropping support for a 2019 is ridiculous...

@JMGoo

the APN settings is set on the ROM.  PM has updated it's APN settings but the ROM would not follow.  Every time there is a major OS update, the system will go back to the ROM and retrieve the APN settings, which is outdated.  So, you can't really blame OnePlus or PM, just how the APN is stored in the phone

Thank you so much, finally a solution that worked for my Oneplus 7T !   Phone had not been able to send attachments for 2 months now.    I reset access points and then changed the MMSC Proxy and MMS Port as you suggested.

Oh, I get the issue, but OnePlus support says:
"Please be advised that APN is related to carrier. I request that you get in touch with your network provider for further assistance if you are experiencing any issues with APN.

Appreciate your kind understanding and cooperation.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We are here to assist you and provide any necessary support. "

Not  the most useful support, I would say.

@JMGoo

the reason is that the APN settings are stored on the ROM itself.  Every time a major OS update, the APN you have not would be flushed and the phone try to get the record on the ROM (the outdated one).  That's why you will need to make a manual update yourself to get it working again

Another update from OnePlus (or is it OneMinus). Still needs to have its snotty nose wiped to make it work. Update is 14.0.0.710(EX01). It looks like the impacted fields are:

  • MMSC proxy: mmscproxy.mobility.ca
  • MMS port: 8799

Reset those and it started texting pictures again.

Is this actually a Public Mobile issue?

I downloaded a PDF of the fields onto my phone, so it is much easier to copy and paste. But if it keeps going like this, I will have it all memorised.

This works for me, thank you!!

I've found during my time with PM, whenever any of my Android phones do a major update, I always have to reset the APN settings. After rebooting it always reverts to a standard Telus APN. Phone calls would work but there's no data or MMS until I switch to the actual Public Mobile APN.

So magically, overnight, having had the de rigeur 8 hours sleep, the OnePlus texting went o strike again. Sigh. So:

cleared cache - nope

tried a different wifi - nope

set the APN from default to:

et voila, it's working again. This is becoming really boring. 😂😂😂

someone said the earlier OnePlus update messed up the APN settings so some have to manually update it.  I guess this lastest one fixed what broken..

Well, here's the thing. Just got 2 updates in short order from OnePlus - Android 14 (from 13) and then 14.0.0.701(EX01) (don't ask me what that all means) and now MMS picture send / receive is all working just dandy with default settings. Who knew 😎😎😎

I just bought an Umidigi G6 for my wife on Amazon for $250 and she loves it. Thin & light with a great display, 6 GB ram & 128 GB rom. Android 13 as well.

Omigod, thank you.

I did that on my phone and it finally worked.

.... let's see how long this lasts.

(Last time, it stopped working after a couple weeks.)

I just finished fixing issues with MMS and thought I'd mention that the APN name is case sensitive!  Make sure the APN name is all caps like below.

Can't believe I searched so long for this, tried so many things with various settings around the APN and messaging apps, and in the end all it took was one lousy '+' in front of my phone number.

Thank you.

Hey everybody,

One is problem DO NOT leave spase in rows:

Example:

You must write sp.mb.com  NOT  sp. mb. com

And don't forget APN type: default,ia,mms, supl, fota, hipri      - NO gaps

Thank you for these settings. They worked for my OnePlus 9 Pro (which should definitely NOT be anywhere near end of life!)

Name: Public Mobile
APN: sp.mb.com
MMSC proxy: mmscproxy.mobility.ca  **On my phone this setting is MMS proxy, not MMSC
MMSC: http://aliasredirect.net/proxy/mb/mmsc
MMS port: 8799
MCC: 302
MNC: 220

APNtype: default,mms

Try setting the APN field: sp.mb.com to SP.MB.COM.

This worked for me. I have the same phone.

On a OnePlus 7 pro it does make a difference. It's not supposed to but it does. Been without MMS for a few weeks now, changing the APN to uppercase fixed it on my 7 pro.

Just wanted to let everyone know that replacing APN with SP.MB.COM (yes, upper case letters) all other settings as PM lists worked on my OnePlus 7 pro. I changed APN, turned on airplane mode, then turned it off and sent a MMS picture. Why uppercase works, no clue.

Upper or lower case shouldn't make any difference. Mine is in lower.

This happened to me with my POCO X4Pro. I found conflicting values for the new APN settings, so ended up trying at least twice before I got it right.

Make sure you reboot your phone after saving the APN new settings. If you want to try the APN settings I'm using I can send them to you by DM.

If it helps anyone else I was able to solve this!

I have had this issue for the last 2 weeks. I have a Oneplus Nord N200, and the steps didn't work on the first few tries. I had to delete/reset the APN 5 times before it randomly worked. On the last delete, it set the APN to "sp.telus.com", i switched it back to "sp.mb.com" & sent my self and MMS and it finally worked:

Name: Public Mobile
APN: sp.mb.com
MMSC proxy: mmscproxy.mobility.ca
MMSC: http://aliasredirect.net/proxy/mb/mmsc
MMS port: 8799
MCC: 302
MNC: 220

APNtype: default,mms
