I know there have been a few posts about the Light Phone 2 working or not on PM. I have one and can attest it is working. If you reset the phone and reboot. put in your sim.. you should be fine. I purchased the phone from Sense, a store out in Montreal, it was on sale and shipped out the next day. Let me know if anyone had questions.

Really sorry for my late response, but it did stop working.. so I only use it on Wifi now.. what a shame..

@TheDomino05 NO , not fo voice
Light Phone 2 does not have the 3G for voice calls It can run VoLTE but it is not on PM's VoLTE compatible list. So, while LP2 can access Mobile data on PM, the voice won't work
Same said on Light Phone home page's Compatibility Checker, too
https://www.thelightphone.com/compatibility-checker
where will you use the phone? Canada
Unfortunately, none of the current versions of the Light Phone II are compatible with your region.

@TheDomino05 @roryharder PM has enabled VoLTE, some phones that is not on that VoLTE list sometimes might have enabled VoLTE briefly, but got removed shortly after. It happens to one of my phones, S21. So, it is possible the Lightphone was enabled at the beginning and then removed.
Again, with Lightphone, VoLTE is the key to voice calls since it lacks the 3G bands

Hi there,
Are you still using the Light Phone 2 on Public Mobile? If yes, does it work well still? SMS and calling? I've read about people recently having issues with Telus, Public Mobile and Koodo but it seems inconsistent.

I have the north american version. Everything worked perfectly until about a week ago, and now I cannot make or receive calls (but I can use sms).

@mikstraz yours work with voice and work on PM?
What exact model number is it? Check from the System info
04-28-2022 10:52 AM
Yes, I haven't had any issues, are you on the North American version?

This is a head scratcher. The specs say it shouldn't work here. How has it been working for you all this time? (And the conversation starter) Did you do any update on it recently? Did you used to use the phone at a different provider?

How do I switch the preferred network type to 3G ONLY/ WCDMA ONLY?

@roryharder According to the spec, Light Phone DOES not have 3G and hence should have work with voice calls.
https://www.thelightphone.com/faqThe Light Phone
Check Technical Spec
Did you use Light Phone for voice with another carrier?
04-26-2022 02:41 PM
Thanks, how do I switch the preferred network type? I am in Toronto.
04-26-2022 02:39 PM
@roryharder Sound like it is a 3G network issue. try to switch the Preferred network type to 3G ONLY/ WCDMA ONLY and see if it works
Also, reboot it once more time
If still fails, it could be just 3G connection in your area, try to use your phone away from where you are now
And which city/province you are in ?

Is the phone still working for you PM? Mine worked fine for months up until a week or so ago. Now I can't make or receive calls, though the texting still works.

Yea, it is a big jump. But a decision on my part in simplifying my digital consumption and trying to be more present. A flip phone is definitely a cheaper option than the light phone 2. However, the size and interface of the phone is what got me. It literally fits in my wallet like a credit card. I definitely dont recommend it to everyone, you have to know what you're getting into. I finished reading Stolen Focus by Johan Hari and it inspired me to take the plunge.

HI @mikstraz It is not easy to go from a fully functioning S21 to a pretty basic phone like this. I thought you are giving this to kids
But honest, such basic phone, what is the logic to it? Why don't just get a transitional flip phone ? cheaper and the Light Phone didn't do too much more
03-06-2022 02:57 PM
Yes, correct. That is the version i have!
03-06-2022 02:54 PM
Yea, agreed. I mean the two-day battery is fine with me, but I can see it being an issue for some. I have had it for 4 days so far, switched over from Telus. I am conducting an experiment, to see how long I can stick to using it as my only phone. So far so good. I noticed that I am not compulsively checking my phone as I did before(S21). The podcasts work well too. I paid 336 (https://www.ssense.com/en-ca/everything-else/product/light-phone/black-light-phone-ii-north-america/...) . I know, it's expensive for what you get but I must say, it is very well designed and well thought through, if they go open source there can be a plethora of opportunities. The only thing I would like added is Whatsapp for communicating with family abroad. I believe it is in the works...

One would likely also need the North American version of the Light Phone.
It uses the following 4G LTE Bands:
B2, B4, B12, B13, B17, B25, B26
Acquiring a device developed for use in European or Asian (or other markets in the Eastern Hemisphere) can lead to compatibility issues in North America.

HI @mikstraz You like it? How much you paid?
I don't like the battery life. Only 2 days, right? With e-ink, screen, I expect something a lot more than that
03-06-2022 02:43 PM
thanks!

Excellent first hand experience, @mikstraz
Good of you to post this with the title being the name of the device. This way, if others search out the device, they'll see this post and know you've had success.
Well done!
