Is Network Down?

ScottPM

Hello all,

I'm checking to see why following Samsung's latest software update I am not able to make any calls out - even though everything else is fine (i.e., sim card is fine, account is fine, no software blocks or flight mode are on, access to networks is fine, etc.). Therefore, that only leaves the possibilities that either the Telus/Public Mobile networks are down, or that Samsung's latest update introduced some significant bugs. Any help will be appreciated.

Regards,

S

Thanks for that, Public Mobile Service went down in Tobermory at about 10:55AM in the middle of a call. Outage still in effect at time of writing. 12:43PM EDT, was considering using a second line for internet service to replace existing service.  The second line I am testing went down as well.  My existing provider, is still up enabling me to write this message.   I guess you get what you pay for.  A power outage should not affect cell service.  It never affected land lines with Bell.  They need to put a power wall with solar/wind backup or something like it in each cell tower location for robustness it needs to be a mandatory part of every build.

Hi,

Thank you for that information. I sourced the issue to an actual outage in Northeastern and Central Ontario reported by Telus. Plus, I am able to use the phone properly to contact numbers not  in those two regions.

I just learned that a good chunk of the Telus service is actually out in Northeastern and Central Ontario. So whether you are trying to call from there or to there you presently cannot. Screenshot below from Telus. Thanks

hi @ScottPM

which Samsung model of phone is that?

Telus is refarming all of their 850 to 10 MHz LTE B5 in their markets, mainly BC, AB, Windsor, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City.   Bell has not done this, so it won't affect area that has Bell networks which Telus/PM use

So, it might affect voice calls for phones that has only 850 Band 5 on the phone but lack 1900 Mhz, those phone people bought in other country.    If you phone has 1900 Mhz, if your phone are those that sold in Canada,  it likely won't impact you, you won't see any service degrade

Thank you for the suggestion. I just checked and only found outages in Northern Ontario, which is not where I presently am. The latest Samsung update was just yesterday - that's when the issue began...

@ScottPM Have you googled "Telus outages"? I have 2 samsungs (flip4, s25) and recent updates did nothing to my service.
