I now have 2 phones...

Hello Public Mobile Technical Engineers,

I have my phone and have been happy since I started except for the time when I for the life of me couldn't get it activated... But bigons be bigons.

Here is my dilemma... I ported my phone from BELL or something I can't remember... Now, BELL matched my Public Mobile Plan with 30GB of monthly Data, iPhone 12 Pro Max 512GB, and unlimited Canada wide, ETC.

I want to port my number back to my new account with BELL, but I want to keep my Public Mobile active but with a different number... But if I port my number once my iPhone is ready to be picked up, it'll automatically nuke this account, which is something I do not want.

I also don't want to change my number on this account because I'll lose my awesome 416 number as It'll go into the Public Mobile pool of numbers.

I want to keep my phone number for BELL and I also want to keep my Public Mobile account with a new number from the available pool.

Help?

@Anonymous Indeed that is the lead I'm following for now, but since my neighbour is a high ranking officer at Telus, he might give me some ideas, but usually, officers have big business stuff to deal with not me porting my number and keeping my account LOL. We'll see though... It's the best advice so far.

Thanks again!

I completely missed the part earlier that you wanted to keep your current Bell number as well, but that still won't change that you can't keep your Public Mobile account if you port the number out.  Who is this high ranking Telus officier? Unless that person specificly deals with the Public Mobile division, that person might not have specific information relating to this brand. You'll also have to trust that I have it from as high up as it goes, at least within Public Mobile, that you cannot keep an account after port the number out. This is part of the same set of guidelines that prohibit phone numbers from being moved from one Public Mobile account to another.

 @dotCEO : Another idea is dual SIM. Can you use the eSIM in the phone for your Bell account and have the PM SIM in. I don't know. I don't do Apple products. Use one or the other for the features you want.

That's what I have. (not a fruity product). I have 2 accounts with PM in one phone. Someone else here has a doggy data account and PM.

 @dotCEO

Reviewing your OP, it seems perhaps kselmak has your best workaround. It might just take a little time and definitely risky.

I hope you all have a happy holiday season, and forget that I tried to do the impossible that is possible after all.

Thank you again!

If you know someone higher up in Telus/Koodo/PM food chain, you may manage to get it done.  But not for John Doe from the street.

@hairbag1 it's unfortunately not possible. There are alot of people that would love to do this including me. I want one number on PM to be switched with a number on Koodo and it's not possible.

Good point.

Esteemed Customer,

Thank you for your advice. I want to see if anyone from the engineering department can chime in on alternatives, cause I really want to keep both accounts somehow 🙂

Onlyest option I can see is to get another cell phone and get a second PM sim and start a new account / new number on the cheapest rate currently sitting at $15.

Once you port out your number to Bell or whomever....your original PM account is permanently closed down.

@dotCEO

You account will be closed and cancel as soon as you port your number out. periodNo ifs or buts.  This is the practice used by every landline and mobile providers in Canada.

You can get another PM SIM card and activate the same plan with a phone number provided by PM if you want.

It can easily be done. They can do all sorts of things if they wanted like re-using SIM's etc. But they don't. No cake here.

Your phone number will be released back to bell. You can ask them to help you with it. You should talk to them if they can catch it after you release it (you just pick new one for public mobile account)

The customer wants to port a Public Mobile phone number to Bell (edit: but that will replace the current Bell number).

@dotCEO

You can port your 416 phone number to Bell for sure, but when you port out to Bell (home for or Mobility), there isn't any way to resume/continue with your Public Mobile account.

You read my mind... I think that's what I might have to do... This is a solution I can get on board with.

Thank you, Esteemed Customer!

Only thing you can consider is using a new number with bell and leaving PM as it is.

Your phone number will be released back to bell. You can ask them to help you with it. You should talk to them if they can catch it after you release it (you just pick new one for public mobile account)

Side note, I've heard that it may take up to 30 days for a number to be released back to pool, they may be able to help

I'm a customer. The people who you talk to here are not usually employees of Public Mobile. There isn't any way to keep an account after porting the number out. Sorry.
