How to stop spam text messages?

Hi, I've been receiving spam text messages from numbers I don't recognize from another province. How can I block and report them? I've tried the "report junk mail" button but one particular number is messaging me regularly now that's turned into a one way conversation for that person and is turning into harassment.

try : 

Block a specific number:
Open the Messages app
In a conversation, tap the name or number at the top
Tap Info
Scroll down and tap Block this Caller

Block texts from unknown numbers:
Go to Settings > Messages
Scroll to the bottom and tap Filter Unknown Senders
Add all known senders to your contact list

Thanks for the replies. I'm using an iphone and don't see any block options.

@robopizza Depending on your phone and app you are using you block the number. On messages in my Pixel 5 I click on the 3 dots when the message is open and select "Block and report spam:. I won't see messages from them again.

you can block the number and the text will go to junk mail 

some might also suggest to change phone number, but i don't think it worth the effort.  Like junk email or junk mail, you cannot really got rid of it completely
