@Jamiebreen prob saying bye bye to public mobile.
There is the potential for you to have the same problem with US roaming with any Canadian carrier unless the phone is capable/enabled for VoLTE. That's something to check before signing up elsewhere, depending on what phone you have. A non-VoLTE phone can make calls on the 3G network in Canada but there is no 3G network in the USA any more.

If you have a reliable wi-fi connection down there, you can use a calling app to call Canada - for FREE!
Here are some:

@Jamiebreen Assuming it's the same as the US talk text and data that costs $30 as an add-on, yes it should work but how well depends on what phone you have. If you don't have a VoLTE phone then for voice calls you would have to connect to T-Mobile's 2G network where available since the US carriers have shut down their 3G networks. The US roaming add-ons only last 15 days starting from the day of purchase.

@Jamiebreen Yes, it should do. From my understanding you need to turn on roaming on your phone, connect AT&T or T-Mobile service in the US manually if it doesn't auto connect. There may be some fiddling with your cell settings from LTE to 3G if it doesn't connect automatically.
