Galaxy S10 and Public Mobile

Hi,

I'm looking for a plan for my parents, they are currently using Fizz, but it's not clear if the phone is compatible with VoLTE and I don't want them to lose their lines. If I make them take a Public Mobile plan, is there also a withdrawal of the 3G network, and is the phone compatible with the Public Mobile Network? The phone is not that old, it's from 2018, and should support 4G and LTE

hi @Diane77 you are upset.. but what phone do you have? it might not affect you as the text could send to people with unaffected phones

Yeah, today it works, but shortly it won't as PM seems to be cutting a lot of phones from their ok list and crippled them to 3G. This pisses me off as there are a lot of very fine viable phones out there.  Some, who recently switched to PM only to now be told their 5 yo phone is crap.  It's called, 'churn'.

Pretty brief ain't it..!

Have a S10e here.  Since moving to PM ring-back tone has stopped.  And I suppose after June 1, the rest of the voice service will collapse too on this phone.  Such a shame for an awesome 2019 phone.  Time to move on to another provider I guess.

..or just move on to FIZZ where the phone is most likely ok.  It's why PM is lower tiered to Telus, as Telus ok's the phone.

Could you try calling like suggested above to check if it uses the 3G network or LTE?

Try this...turn off your local wifi. Dial a local call. Does the call now drop to 3G or does it stay on LTE ? If it stays on LTE, you're good...if not, you'll be needing a newer phone soon. Sounds like Public Mobile is deactivating 3G for calls. (Remember to turn on wifi again !! )

It could be a hit and miss with the S10 here. While it is VoLTE capable, it's not on public mobile list.  So calls could drop randomly, no ringing tones when calling,  and choppy calls.

It also depends on their location.  Some people with this phone says they have no issues yet.

It's a tough one.
