During activation it prompts that the esim was not installed. How do i find my esim number

The customer service rep asking you to get a physical sim doesn't mean that the rep wasn't helpful. If your phone can't use an eSIM, getting a physical sim is the only option. The only thing that I'll agree with you on is that the rep should have have offered to send a physical sim, but that can take a couple of weeks to arrive, so getting it at a Telus store or through Amazon is probably faster.

why you want to find the esim number? shouldn't you try to install the esim instad
check the Sim Manager or Settings-> Cellular and check if the Public Moble esim is there. If not, check PM welcome letter, it has a QR code to scan and install the esim
