Double Text

Lately been getting double text. I downloaded other sms apps and it doesn't do it. The double text come in on stock Android messenger and the new Android messenger.  I thought Facebook messenger wouldn't do it but double text come in. Not sure how to fix the issue. Doesn't matter if person is in Canada or the US. If someone fixed this issue please let me know how to fix.

Turned out it was the upgrade to 7.1.1 that caused issue. Once I factory reset the phone everything went back to normal an no double text.

Anything is possible... If the latest update "changed" the deafault SMS app back to whatever, FB may still be setup as it knows your phone number is to forward via Facebook.

I used to do IT stuff for a living, and anytime "something" goes wrong, I always work backwards to basic, then move forward, as I suggested in my previous post.

I been using FB messenger for SMS for months and no double messages. It's only after I went to different version of Android. Is it possible the Android 7.1.1 update caused the problem?

My thoughts on this would be to go through each SMS receiving app, and disable the ability to send and receive SMS (and MMS) messages on all but the stock client.

Once this has been done, test the reception of SMS (and MMS) to see what happens.  If only one app (the stock one) notifies, it's a problem with the other(s) and having them able to send/receive messages.

My dad was getting confused between FB Messenger and SMS, as he allowed FB Messenger to send and receive SMS.  When he got rid of his data plan, he didn't understand why he was getting messages in FB Messenger.  I had to help him with it, and we discovered it was sending and receiving SMS, so we disabled  it so he wouldn't be confused.

My Galaxy J5 2016 just got the upgrade from Android 6.1.1 to 7.0.1 Once uograde was complete the double messages started

to be clear you are not getting double notifications but dublicate text messages.  

can you try your sim in a different phone and receive a text. this will isolate account vs hardware issue.

can you disable./uninstal all but one texting apps 

was it a recent development?  what app did you install before you noticed this happenng?
