I still have lots of data left, but my phone won't connect to googlemaps if I am away from my wifi at home.

You can control what apps can work with data. My guess is the switch for Google Maps is off. On an iPhone go to cellular and scroll down and adjust, accordingly, the apps and switches.

@rudy2 is it just Google Map not working on Mobile Data? or other apps too?
If it is just Google map, you might have restricted the data usage on Google Map alone
Depends on the phone, check accordingly
iPhone
Android: Android is trickier as different brands could have a different implementation. Some have direct mobile data restriction like iPhone above.
Some are only restricted if Data Saver is On. So, check if Data Saver is set to On, and then check If Google Maple is enable or disable for "Allow Data usage while Data saver is on". It would be something similar to below, except mine is showing the setting for YouTube, you should be checking for Google Map (To get to the Google Map Application Data Usag page, Long press on the Google Map Icon, click "i" for Info or click App Info, then click "Mobile Data")

@rudy2 - is it just googlemaps that will not connect through data? if you can access other webpages using data then it is something with the maps app or your device.
You may need to update your Google Maps app, connect to a stronger Wi-Fi signal, recalibrate the app, or check your location services.
You can also reinstall the Google Maps app if it isn't working, or simply restart your iPhone or Android phone.

Check phone setting to see if your Cellular Data is enabled.

Roaming only needs to be enabled if you are roaming outside of Canada and for pm that would be in the US only.

Have you ever had data? Its likely an APN issue. Ensure that mobile data is on. Make sure you dont have a data limiter on that has restricted your data usage ( a good thing to utilize but you need to check that it isnt the issue.) What make and model of phone do you have?

@rudy2 Hi in your self serve account under my data and Add ons do you see a line indicating your data allotment? If not your data has been used for this cycle

Make sure data roaming is on and you’re connected to 3G. Can you connect to the internet at all when away from home?
