Data not working

Krd1
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

I just switched to Public and have gone through all of the suggestions from the Public Mobile Chatbot ( turning airplane mode on and off, restarting my device,  entering the APN settings - I entered APN: sp.mb.com, resetting network settings).

I can text using wifi but can't make phone calls.  Any suggestions?

@Adibrizzi  check the data from PM Self-Serve account.  I understand the Phone showing you only used 200mb, but it can be different on PM's record.  Also, not sure if your iPhone can do 30 days cycle, many phone data only showing monthly instead, that's why confirm the data usage on PM

 @Adibrizzi : But..what..does..the ..self-serve (or 611)..say? Can you post a screenshot of the overview page? Blank out personal info of course.

@Adibrizzi  Couple of ideas:

  • go to Settings .. General .. About: if a carrier update is offered install it
  • even though it's a new activation confirm you have data showing under Data & add ons in your account
  • Go to Settings >> General >> Profiles remove any data or vpn profiles there

    (if you don't see the profile tab. It means you don't have any profiles installed so you can go to the next step)

  • Reset network settings: Go to Settings >> General >> Reset >> Reset network settings. The phone will switch off and restart automatically in a few minutes.

 @Adibrizzi : Has data ever worked for you here at Public Mobile?

You say data on your phone...but we need to know if you have data in your account. Under My Data & Add-ons, if you see a line mentioning data and a number like 256 / 1024 or some such numbers then good. If you don't see any mention of data under there then you've used it all.

Edit: or dial 611 and press 3 and listen to the usages. Does it mention data left?

Hi @Adibrizzi so you have service and your only problem is not being able to read your emails and browse the internet.

Check out Apple User Guide here https://support.apple.com/en-ca/guide/iphone/iphd1cf4268/ios

My phone is up to date, I have data on my phone which has not been used. I have gone through shutting dow, resetting, I even took out the SIM card and re inserted and nothing works.

 @Adibrizzi : Apple. Can you also check your self-serve account to see that you have data available. Maybe you ran out.

 @Adibrizzi : Can you USB connect your phone to a computer with itunes or whatever it's called now and connected to the internet and look for any updates?

@Krd1   how long you have activated the line ?  is it that you still can't  make any phone call and cannot use Data at all?  no incoming and outgoing calls? do you have another phone to put in the PM SIM to test it out?

What kind of phone is yours?

@Krd1 , take a look at the symbols of the notification line.  Do you see the signal strength indicator show a signal strength level without an x?  If not you are not connecting to the network.  The APN settings are for mobile data.  To test that you need to disable WiFi and try using a browser, but did this only if you have a confirmed network connection.

@Krd1 ,

So texting through wifi, meaning through imessage? IF so, than you basically have no Public Mobile Service yet.

Did your port a number over and receive a text from the previous provider to approve the port with 90 minutes of activating?

Try a few more reboots this morning - If still NO services after this time contact the Moderators to check on your port/activation.

To contact the Public Mobile Moderator_Team, there are two ways to reach them:

1 -  Faster Method - Click the bubble comment circle on the bottom right hand side of your screen, or use this link to: Get Help With SIMon the Public Mobile chatbot

OR

2 – Slower Method - Use this link to:

Was network setting reset after you entered APN?  That would clear the changes made.  Are you connected to network?  No calls? Make sure 2g isn't the network type. Try sim in another phone or else go back to chatbot and open a ticket.

Did you leave the old SIM in the phone and confirm with YES that you are porting over to PM?

Then power off the phone and install the PM SIM then power it back.

This may take up to an hour to port over to PM.

If you missed and of these steps, click on SIMon chat bubble and ask to contact a moderator to help you with the porting.

Porting doesn't do anything to data or making calls.
