Why is my data not working? Message saying carrier temporarily shut off data? Why?

check if any outage:

and Reboto phone once then Reset Network Settings

More details would be helpful? Is talk and text working fine?  Did you run out of data?  Check your self service account. 

You could also try a simple restart of your phone.  Network reset of phone (note: this will erase any saved Wifi passwords).
