Does one have to manually setup their data or is this auto configured in an iPhone 6S?

@DonaldB In addition to the earlier suggestions:
go to Settings >> General >> Profiles remove any data or vpn profiles there
(if you don't see the profile tab. It means you don't have any profiles installed)

You shouldn't have to do anything manually, but it may require a reset of your network and APN settings.

@DonaldB reset your network settings and restart your phone if it doesn't automatically do so.
Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you've used before.
Enable data and Try sending an mms message and surfing the internet. Also enable sms and mms to send and receive from Android phones. Welcome to PM. Stay safe.
