Data Add Ons -- Extra Data Plans

Am i able to purchase a Virgin Islands/US add on for data only?? I already have international minutes on my account, and the add on with text/call/data only includes 200mb. I'll pay extra if needed but 200mb for a trip is pretty insignificant

Thank you

@gvkhoury

There is a workaround for the lack of pm roaming options for international destinations. Download textnow and fongo and choose a Canadian number. You don't need both but in case one works better than the other you have options but keep in mind that fongo does not have free outgoing texts unlike textnow but both have free incoming texts and incoming /outgojng calls that will work on wifi ( if you are staying at a resort you will have lots of free wifi) and on mobile data if you feel the need to purchase a local sim card for data (mostly). Test before you leave call forwarding your pm number to the fongo and textnow numbers and decide which gives you better call quality and call forward your pm number before you board the plane and toggle airplane mode on.

Once you arrive at your final destination you can toggle off airplane mode at the airport and call someone in Canada while on the free wifi at the airport and have them call you pm number just go ensure everything forwards as planned. You can then decide if you need or want to purchase a local sim card or not or give it a day or two to decide what your needs are while on holiday and purchase one later.

Local sim cards and plans are very cheap. Claro is probably your best bet as they use the 850 and 1900 bandz the same as pm and have the best coverage. $1 cdn=45 DOP. Plans can run from 1 day/1gb for $1 to 28 days/28gb for about $15 cdn. Here is a comprehensive overview of your options:

@gvkhoury

If you have already purchased the 10 day US Roaming Bundle (vs just adding the funds to your account) that has already activated but you cannot use then contact customer support (after confirming in your account transaction history that you both added funds and purchased the add on) and ask them nicely to remove it and credit your account. Explain that you made an honest mistake thinking you could use the US roaming add on in the Dominican Republic.

I don't think you'll get anything there with PM.

Edit: No. T-Mobile is merely a roaming partner. There's no other method with them. Other than of course local service.

Edit again: The closest points of Puerto Rico is maybe 115km from the Dominican coast. Cell signals from T-Mobile or AT&T would not reach that distance.

According to the Coverage Map, YES
https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/on/coverage

PM using AT&T and T-Mobile as the roaming partners

I believe AT&T does not have coverage there anymore, so you are left with T-Mobile.

If you want to be really careful, you might want to open a ticket with PM Support to confirm.  And in the worst case, if you bought it , didn't work, you have a proof that they said it will work and PM will likely reverse the purchase

To open ticket with PM:
