I have always had the phone service company do the the activation for me and am aprehensive about making this decision. What would be involved in activating another phone?

If you are porting your old number over to PM. Remember to keep your old SIM in your phone and wait for a text confirming you are porting over to PM. There will be a 90 minute window for you to reply or the porting will be aborted.
Also your old amount must be Active to be ported over.

It is simple; no need to be anxious when getting service from PM.
Get new SIM, have credit card ready, have unique email (avoid plus '+' sign as part of email), follow steps above. Pick phone number you like (limited number of available numbers). Confirm service is working. Done.

1. you just need to buy a new sim card from Telus or Koodo store
2. make sure you have a different email address to use for the new account, PM system is one email for one My Account setup
3. Go to https://activate.publicmobile.ca/ and activate there using the second email address
4. you can pick new number or port in another number if you want to
5. make sure you enter your own friend referral code for this new line (logon to your current My Account and you can find the code there) to earn referral bonus
